Eileen Elizabeth Busby 8/13/44 ~ 10/18/20

On Sunday October 18, 2020, Eileen Elizabeth Busby, loving wife and mother of two sons, passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 76.
Eileen was born August 13, 1944 in Summit, NJ. to John and Elizabeth (Carolan) Conway.
Eileen’s mother, Elizabeth, was born in Dublin, Ireland. Her father, John Conway, was also of Irish descent. Eileen spent much of her youth helping her mother prepare food as she worked as a caterer. Her culinary talents were perfected along the years and were welcomed by the family.
She received her degree in Education from Georgian Court University and spent many years as a second-grade teacher. In 1971 while vacationing in Bermuda, she met David L. Busby of Henderson, KY. He was stationed there while working for NASA, after serving in the U.S. Air Force for nearly ten years. They were married June 29, 1974 in her hometown of Summit, NJ. In 1982 they moved to Collierville, TN. where they raised their two sons John and Michael.
While the family was growing up Eileen was a devout Catholic and active member of the Church of the Incarnation. She was an ardent and talented component of the church choir, often singing to her children in the car, at home, and everywhere else. Her mezzo-soprano voice would carry and make you feel like you were on eagle’s wings. Mornings at the breakfast table were always surrounded with opera or classical music from the radio, with Eileen singing backup. The family spent multiple days a week at the church, worshiping, fund raising, growing the Boy Scout troop, and sharing fellowship with the community.
Eileen was known for her extremely quick wit and laugh out loud jokes, always the one to make the family laugh. She was not one to mince words, and heartily spoke her mind with a high level of enthusiasm. Proud of her extensive vocabulary, she often sent the children to the dictionary after using obscure words or phrases. Daily she would watch the TV show Jeopardy, and always knew the correct response many times baffling the family with her knowledge.
Eileen was an extremely generous person in spirit and act. She was constantly helping those in need. Many, many families and single mothers were the recipients of clothes, books, school supplies, or any item she found while sharpening her garage sale shopping tactics. She was also an active blood donor ultimately giving over 7 gallons. Her last and final gift was the donation of her body for medical research.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Elizabeth Conway. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, David, her two sons John (Lindy) Busby of Hernando, MS. and Michael (Candice) Busby of Collierville TN., as well as grandchildren Preston, Liam, and Rogan. She leaves her brothers Sean (Roseann) Conway of Flemington, NJ. and Brian (Barbara) Conway of Centerville, MA. along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was absolutely a lady in every sense of the word and will be missed tremendously by all the people with whom she shared her joyous life.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held Saturday, October 24, 2020 from 1:00 – 3:00 PM in Collierville, TN. Inquiries can be received at [email protected]
