Dragons fall to Saints in season opener

After months of anticipation football finally returned to Collierville on Friday night. 

The Dragons hosted Briarcrest in front of hundreds of fans who were required to wear masks and practice social distancing. 

The Saints were victorious 21-7 after a dominant performance in the first half. 

Collierville got on the scoreboard in the third quarter when junior quarterback Ethan Pettigrew found junior receiver Scottie Alexander for a touchdown.

Pettigrew finished the game with 139 passing yards and 12 yards on the ground. He completed 11-of-21 passes and threw for one interception. 

The Saints got big performances from senior Michael Dallas and sophomore Max Carroll.

Dallas paced the team with 216 passing yards and 121 yards on the ground.

He was involved in all three of the Saints’ touchdowns. Carroll caught four passes for 89 yards and a touchdown. 

Collierville senior Dylan Powell led the ground attack for the Dragons with 43 yards on 14 attempts.

Senior linebacker Ethan Hassler anchored the Dragon defense with seven tackles, three of which were for a loss of yards. Collierville (0-1) will host Milan this Friday night.

The Bulldogs are 0-1 this season and coming off of a 34-13 loss to Peabody, Tenn. 

Briarcrest (1-0) will play at Houston High this Friday night.

The Mustangs lost to Christian Brothers 24-14 in week one.
