Collierville’s Melvin gets golden ticket to Hollywood | Collierville Independent

Collierville’s Anna Melvin got her big break last week when she auditioned on the popular television show American Idol. She was awarded her golden ticket to move on to Hollywood.

Currently a senior at the University of Memphis, Melvin is a graduate of Briarcrest Christian School. This is her fifth year with Sound Fuzion, a band at the university.

Melvin said she is passionate about singing and the direction it has taken her life. Even though she has always loved music, it wasn’t until she was singing at the Memphis Mid-South Fair several years ago that she discovered her love of performing.

The last several years, Melvin has honed her skills on any stage she could. She starred in several high school musicals at Briarcrest, performed at fairs, rodeos, professional baseball games, the National Women’s Republican luncheon, and was honored to open for country music legend Earl Thomas Conley.

Three years ago, Melvin was chosen to be a semi-finalist for The Voice, and got to go to Hollywood last year as a semi-finalist for American Idol. She plans to move to Nashville shortly after graduation to pursue a career in music.Idol
