Once again, Collierville students have hit it out of the park!
Six students from Collierville schools have placed in the State Fire Prevention Poster Contest.
The theme for the 2022 contest was “Fire won’t wait; plan your escape”. The contest asked students to highlight how quickly fire spreads, and to encourage families to develop an escape plan. This was particularly important given that today’s homes burn more quickly, and in most cases allow only about two minutes for escape.
Local contest entries were judged in October and winners received their awards at a ceremony at the Morton Museum. Entries were then sent to the state level for the opportunity to compete against 114 entries from across the State of Tennessee.
“We had five judges with backgrounds in art and fire service, and of course, Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance (TDCI) Commissioner Carter Lawrence picked the Commissioner’s Choice Award,” said TDCI Director Kevin Walters.
The six students and their families are invited to an awards ceremony in their honor on February 11th at the Tennessee State Library and Archives. They will receive a cash prize, certificate from Governor Bill Lee, and a prize bag.

Kindergarten: Nora Rezaie- Tara Oaks Elementary
4th Grade: Liam Hert- Tara Oaks Elementary
5th Grade- Reyansh Dash- Tara Oaks Elementary
6th Grade Commissioners Choice: Japneet Singh- Collierville Middle School
11th Grade: Meg He- Collierville High School
12th Grade: Meredith Dai- Collierville High School
