A Quilt of Valor® (QOV) is a quality, handmade quilt that is machine or hand quilted. It is awarded to a Service Member or Veteran who has been touched by war. On March 7, a Quilt of Valor award was presented to active-duty Melissa Y. Smith, U.S. Air Force Rank E-7, Master Sergeant, at the regular meeting of the Chief Piomingo Chapter, NSDAR.

Jennifer Hunt Bostick, Chapter Regent, shared the outstanding active-duty biography of Ms. Smith from July 2005 to the present. The chapter Americanism Chair, Selena Silvestro, also The Sewing House Quilts of Valor Volunteers Coordinator, acquired the beautifully handmade quilt from local quilting volunteers.

In addition to the quilt, Regent Bostick presented the certificate from the Quilts of Valor Foundation, recognizing Master

Sergeant Smith’s service to the nation and her sacrifice to protect and defend the United States of America. The Quilt of Valor is an expression of gratitude from a grateful nation.
