Collierville resident wins ‘Dream Home’ in St. Jude Giveaway

By Aaron Fleming

The winners for the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway were announced Monday and one lucky Collierville resident walked away with a new home.

John Pfieffer was the giveaway’s big winner, scoring the large dream home valued at close to half a million dollars.

Raising more than $500 million for the patients and families of St. Jude, the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway program is celebrating its 31st anniversary nationwide.

The St. Jude Dream HomeGiveaway has become one of the largest single-event fundraisers for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital nationwide, according to a press release.

This is the 22nd house to be built in this market, which has raised $1.6 million.

Over the time that the giveaway has been going on, 550 houses have been won.

Outside of the dream home, this year’s prizes included several big- ticket items that were taken from other Memphians and residents from the surrounding area.

Jeffany Joralemon from Bartlett won a new car and was given the choice of either a new 2021 Honda Civic LX or a Nissan Versa 1.6 SV

The Ultimate Memphis Experience: a bundle of prizes including a day at the Peabody Hotel, Tiger Basketball season tickets, and a $1000 Visa Gift Card was won by Melanie McDonald from Memphis.

A couple’s package that included 8 club box seats to a Grizzlies game next season, Tigers Basketball season tickets, 2 $1000 Visa Gift Cards, a diamond bracelet was won by Julie Cannon from Oakland.

Winners were chosen from a random drawing of names.

To get their name entered, however, contestant had to purchase tickets for $100 each.

Tickets were limited to 50 at a time, for a total of $5,000 that one could spend at once to better their chances at winning.

Pfieffer entered into a low-risk, extremely high-reward situation when he purchased a single ticket.

For just $100, Pfeiffer won the biggest and most valuable prize out of the whole contest.

That prize, of course, was the dream home.

Pfieffer’s name was announced along with the other winners Sunday Night on WMC 5 Action News 5 in Memphis.

During the drawing, a tour of the home was given by Greg Bridgers, founder of Southern Serenity Homes, a Memphis-based custom home builder that has built the St. Jude dream homes for the past 13 years straight, and Joy Redmond with WMC 5.

Located at 5078 Moudry Lane at Windstead Farms in Lakeland, the home spans 3,400 acres and boasts 4 bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms, a large covered patio with an outdoor kitchen and fireplace and a kids play room with a secret passageway.

The kitchen features top of the line appliances including a double speed oven set by Bosch that cooks food in half the time of a traditional oven.  It also features elegant, ten-foot tall, wooden cabinets crafted  by Southern Cabinetry.

Over the years that it has been building for the homes for St. Jude, Southern Serenity has also helped to raise $15,450,000 for them.
