The Collierville Education Foundation has distributed nearly $75,500 through 48 grants to teachers in Collierville Schools. These grants fulfill various teacher requests – from technology equipment and opportunities for artistic expression to new methods for recycling in the classroom.
“Each year, we award worthy teachers the funds they need to expand their students’ educational horizons,” said Jeffrey Elsworth, CEF president. “When we review the grant applications, we see the creative and innovative ways our teachers are working to take their classrooms to new heights. It really speaks to the strength of our school system.”
In total, CEF awarded 44 teachers from nine schools – Bailey Station Elementary School, Collierville Elementary School, Collierville High School, Collierville Middle School, Schilling Farms Elementary School, Tara Oaks Elementary, Sycamore Elementary, Crosswinds Elementary and West Collierville Middle School – grants throughout the month of December. The funds will be used to purchase supplemental classroom supplies to enhance the educational experience of students in Collierville.
CEF’s sponsors continue to assist the foundation’s efforts to provide grants. Longtime sponsors, Landers Ford and the Town of Collierville, gave a grant to each school. Additionally, Carrier Corporation donated $4,000 to be used toward grants involving math and science. Finally, the highest scoring grant was presented with the Marilyn Barnes Green Award, given in honor CEF Founder John Green’s first wife.
To date, the Collierville Education Foundation has awarded more than $1.2 million in grants to public school teachers. The grant application for 2020 will be posted online later this year for teachers to submit their proposals.
Collierville Education Foundation was founded in June 1996 and received its 501(c)(3) status as a nonprofit in December 1997. With the primary purpose of championing educational excellence in the Collierville public schools, the foundation provides grants to teachers for educational enrichment through fundraising.
