Collierville bests Cleveland in first round of State Tournament

The Collierville Dragons beat Cleveland 62-56 Thursday afternoon in the first round of the 2021 Class AAA State Boys’ Basketball Tournament in Murfreesboro.

Davon Barnes led the Dragons with 24 points and was 8-for-15 from the field. Barnes also had 10 rebounds in the game.

Jordan Jenkins chipped in 15 points for Collierville.

The Dragons were a blistering 17-of-20 from the free throw line.

Collierville outrebounded Cleveland 34-29 while shooting 43 percent from the field.

Grant Hurst paced Cleveland with 32 points.

Collierville (22-11) will move on to play the winner of the Cane Ridge vs. Bearden game tomorrow night at 7 p.m.

The boys state championship game is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Crosstown rival Houston High is scheduled to play Clarksville at 8:30 p.m. tonight.
