Calendar of Events | Collierville Independent

APRIL 3

• If you love fabric, yarns and beads, you must put April 3 on your calendar. That is the next meeting of the Collierville Sewing Guild. The program will feature a local quilter and crafter who will show off her handmade dolls. These are not your ordinary dolls but dolls with wild hair and outrageous clothes. Bring a glue stick and make a truly fun doll of your own to take home. The group meets at the Collierville Hobby Lobby at 10 a.m. in the classroom at the back of the store.

APRIL 3-6

• Collierville High School’s Draco Theatre will present South Pacific on April 3 for a four-day run until April 6, every night in the Collierville High auditorium at 7 p.m. except for the Sunday matinee, which starts at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for adults and can be bought at the door.

APRIL 7

• Join the Collierville Library on April 7 from 2-3:30 p.m. in the Halle Room to listen to author Ashton Lee discuss and sign his new novel, The Reading Circle. Ashton Lee’s novel, The Cherry Cola Book Club, debuted in April 2013 to rave reviews with RT Book Reviews calling it a “delightful read” and Mississippi Magazine calling it “witty and heartfelt.” Lee was born in historic Natchez, Miss., into a large, extended Southern family which gave him much fodder for his fiction in later life.

APRIL 10

• The Town of Collierville, City of Germantown and UT Extension Office will host a Home Landscape Workshop from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 10 at the Economic & Community Development building at 1920 S. Germantown Road. The event will offer essential steps to a healthy landscape, key strategies to managing soil, turf and mulch, lessons on the use of rain water, rain gardens and rain barrels, and landscape design essentials and curb appeal tips. Participants will receive access to a UT Extension horticultural agent, a workbook and a complimentary lunch. The event is $35 a person and $50 a couple. Advanced registration is required. Call 752-1207 to register or for more information.

APRIL 19

APRIL 23

• Do you canoe, kayak or raft? Have you been thinking about it, but don’t know where to start? Would you like to fish along the Wolf River, or take a walk with your kids? If so, the Wolf River Conservancy wants to hear from you. On April 23, the Wolf River Conservancy will have a community input session from 5-7 p.m. at Collierville Town Hall, 500 Poplar View Parkway, as part of its Wolf River Boat Launch Access Study. The purpose of the Wolf River Boat Launch Access Study is to increase the use and enjoyment of the Wolf River, provide opportunities to participate in outdoor recreation activities, improve safety in and around the River and improve and enhance connectivity with green spaces and trail networks in the area. Community input is an important part of the Study because the WRC wants to ensure that any improvements it makes will meet the needs of paddlers of all ages and skill levels and will make the Wolf River a more accessible and enjoyable asset in Shelby and Fayette counties. The meeting will be in an open house format, with a brief presentation and four activity stations to gather information on how the Wolf River is being used and what people would like to see in the future. For more information, contact Marie Branch, WRC Special Project Coordinator, at 603-9904 or [email protected], or visit the WRC website at wolfriver.org.
