There will be a Lawn & Garden Expo on April 2 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Brighton High School, Highway 51. There is no admission charge. Vendors, exhibits, children’s garden area, dynamic speakers and soil pH testing. Presented by UT Tipton County Extension Master Gardeners, 476-0231.

April 2

Tennessee volunteers will team up with the Civil War Trust to help clean and restore 14 landmarks as part of Park Day, a nationwide effort that includes more than 125 historic sites in 29 states. Thousands of volunteers will gather at sites across the country as Park Day celebrates its twentieth year on April 2.

Volunteers interested in participating in Park Day are encouraged to contact the individual sites listed below. Activities range from raking leaves and hauling trash to painting signs and planting trees.

Some sites will provide lunch or refreshments to volunteers, and a local historian may be available to describe the park’s significance. Volunteers will also receive t-shirts.

Starting times vary at each site. Tennessee volunteers may sign up at the following locations:

• Britton Lane Battlefield – Denmark, Tenn. 9 a.m.

Clean up a wooded area to make it useable for camping and living history events. Drinks will be provided.

• Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park – Chattanooga, Tenn. 9 a.m.

Volunteers will assist with trail maintenance and preservation of historic landscapes, including removal of invasive plant species. Light food and drinks will be provided.

• Fort Dickerson – Knoxville, Tenn. 9 a.m.

Volunteers will spread mulch, trim bushes and rake leaves. Food and drinks will be provided.

• Fort Donelson National Battlefield and National Cemetery – Dover, Tenn. 9 a.m.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to assist in caring for interpretive native plant gardens, cleaning and caring for modern exhibits and 1930s-era historic War Department tablets, clearing fall and winter debris from historic earthworks, performing trail examinations and inspections and assisting in maintenance of grounds and headstones at Fort Donelson National Cemetery. Light food and drinks will be provided.

April 7-10

Collierville High School presents its final show this season with the suspenseful musical Jekyll and Hyde at the Draco Playhouse on the campus of Collierville High School. The show opened on Broadway in 1997, and Director Keith Salter is bringing it to life April 7-10.

April 7

The St. Benedict Spring Fling — a campus-wide showcase — will be on April 7 starting at 4:30 p.m. at 2250 Varnavas Drive at Germantown Parkway. The event provides an opportunity to see all the school has to offer.

The evening includes academics, arts, athletics and everything that you want to see in a school. There is free entry to a variety of sports action at all the venues (lacrosse, softball, soccer, baseball, tennis and track) and discounted entry to the spring musical Kiss Me, Kate, along with tours and meet-and-greet.

The Spring Fling Showcase is open to all prospective students and their families. Students in Middle School (5-8 grades) and their parents are particularly encouraged to come. Students looking for a change in high school are certainly invited, as well.

April 8

The next Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) class takes place April 8, 9 and 16, at Fire Station 4, 3031 Forest Hill-Irene Road. The free class takes place Friday evening at 7 p.m. and Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. There is a CERT team role for adults of all abilities.

The 20-hour program prepares citizens for emergency and disaster situations. Participants learn basic disaster response skills, fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations.

CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace when first responders are not immediately available during a disaster or emergency.

April 9

The ninth annual Kollierville Kite Day will be on April 9 from 9-11 a.m. at Collierville’s Hinton Park; 10524 East Holmes Road.

Festivities will include a professional kite flying demonstration, food trucks and prizes for the most unique, most colorful and best homemade kite.

There will also be prizes for the oldest and youngest participants.

April 11

The annual Wesberry Golf Classic will be held on April 11 at Ridgeway Country Club located at 9800 Poplar Ave. in Germantown.

The golf tournament honors the late Dr. Fred Wesberry who was a long-time supporter of SRVS and who helped support individuals at SRVS through his care in dentistry. Proceeds will benefit more than 1,200 children and adults with disabilities at SRVS.

The golf tournament is a 4-person scramble and includes lunch, an awards reception, putting and flight contests, door prizes and giveaways.

Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. followed by a light lunch at 11:30 p.m. and shotgun start at 12:30 p.m.

April 11

A new parent/child swim class is starting at the YMCA at Schilling Farms. The classes will be offered on Mondays starting April 11 and run for 7 weeks. Skipper I is for ages 9 months – 18 months from 11-11:30 a.m. and Skipper II is for 18 months – 3 years old from 11:30 a.m. to noon.

In the class, parents can introduce their child to a variety of swimming skills and activities. Classes are 30 minutes in length.
