Briarcrest Christian School Appoints Coach Phil Massey Head Varsity Football Coach and High School Dean of Students

Eads, TN – Briarcrest Christian School is pleased to announce the appointment of Phil Massey to the position of Head Varsity Football Coach and High School Dean of Students.

Coach Massey received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Baylor University, where he was on a full athletic scholarship and was the quarterback for the Bears under Head Coach Grant Teaff.  As a highly recruited Parade All-American college quarterback, he received offers from University of Tennessee, University of Georgia, and The University of Memphis.  He earned a Master of Education degree from Bethel University.  

Coach Massey began his teaching and head coaching career at Haywood County High School from 1993-2000.  His team had two state championship appearances over those years.  In 2001, he joined the coaching staff at Memphis University School as the Offensive Coordinator.  From 2001 to 2005, Coach Massey assisted in leading two teams to Division II-AAA State Titles. From 2006-2021, he was named the Head Coach at Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  His teams had two state championship appearances over those years. 

 In 2022, he was named the Head Coach at Chattanooga Christian School. After one season at CCS, Coach Massey set several program records with the most wins in a season and the first semi-final appearance.  His overall Head Coaching record is 184-112 and is listed as #12 among active coaches in the state of Tennessee for all-time wins.  He was named Regional Coach of the Year four times, “Best of the West” Coach of the Year three times, and 2019 Legacy Builder Coaches Award presented by Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Coach Massey has been married to his wife, Sandy, for 36 years and together they have two sons, Tyler (wife, Savannah) and Houston.  They also have a granddaughter, Millie.  After moving to the area, they plan on attending Harvest Church.
