13 injured, many ‘seriously,’ one killed in Collierville Kroger shooting

A male shooter that was reported earlier this afternoon at the Collierville Kroger at 240 New Byhalia Road is deceased from a believed self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Thirteen people were shot and one is believed to be deceased. Many of those injured are considered to be in “serious condition.”

Collierville Police Chief Dale Lane said that the shooting happened at around 1:30 p.m. Officers arrived four minutes later.

“Our first responders ran in without hesitation,” he said.

Lane said to keep those injured “in your hearts.”

Some Kroger employees hid in refrigerator units once the shooting began.

Students at nearby Collierville High School were being sheltered in place but a school lockdown has been lifted.

The Collierville Police Department, Memphis Police Department and Shelby County Sheriff’s Office reported to the scene on Thursday afternoon.

Multiple ambulances have now been reported at Regional One and Methodist University Hospital.

Police are now planning to carefully check the shooter’s vehicle. The investigation remains “active.”

Lane said that he is currently unsure if the shooter was a former or current employee of Kroger.

One employee said that she couldn’t believe that something like this would happen in Collierville.

She recounted that the shooter began rapidly firing as soon as he entered the store.
