Town officials approve mowing contract

By Graham Sweeney

Last week, the town’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen unanimously approved a $415,641 amended contract for mowing services to keep Collierville’s more than 225 grassy landscapes in immaculate shape.

According to Derek Honeycutt, director of General Services, “Large increases in grounds maintenance responsibilities created by additional parks acreage, medians, rights-of-way, and public facilities, lead to the establishment of a mowing services contract in 2002.”

In 2014, the town
approved a new contract with Above All Landscape Enterprises for $194,933 to provide mowing services for 33 locations around Collierville. Multiple amendments to this contract were used to accommodate the “ever-expanding requirements of town grounds maintenance.”

“After the initial contract and all renewals were exhausted, the contract with Above All Enterprises was closed in 2018 with the final year of service costing $431,087,” Honeycutt noted.

A new mowing services contract was approved in 2019 with Landscape Workshop. The contract required mowing services at 227 locations, including parks grounds, rights-of-way, school properties and building grounds for $384,468. However, three amendments have been added to contract, including the addition of 12 properties, the change in service levels at two properties and the removal of one property.

The new annual contract with Landscape Workshop is for $395,988. The $22,868 reduction will go toward a future contract with Dee’s Lawn Service to provide bushhogging services at 15 town locations. Dee’s has made a $41,000 bid for these services. This contract will be discussed at the March 28 BMA meeting.
