New gas station, convenience store planned on current bank site

A new convenience store and gas station is scheduled to be built at the southwest corner of Byhalia Road and Maynard Way.

The town’s Planning Commission was set to discuss a conditional use permit on Thursday for a store on .92 acres in front of the Lowe’s Home Improvement Store.

A Region’s Bank, which currently occupies the site, has been standing since 1997.

A fuel pump canopy will replace the existing bank teller canopy on the southwest side of the building so that three double-sided fuel pumps can service up to six vehicles.

The 3,431-square-foot building requires 18 parking spaces for a convenience store. There are currently 25 existing parking spaces on the property.

If the Planning Commission approves the permit, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen will approve the proposal at a future meeting.

David Bray, lead designer and project manager of the Bray Firm in Bartlett, said that the site is “part of the overall commercial retail complex extending northward to Poplar Ave.in the Great Oaks Shopping Center West.

“The existing site is located in an area of commercial retail uses, including; big box establishments, neighborhood commercial uses, restaurants and professional services uses.
